r-GT, A Promising Marker for HCC Development after SVR in Hepatitis C Patients?
نویسنده
چکیده
Approximately 80% of HCC cases are associated with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections [2]. In North America, Europe and Japan, infection with HCV is the main risk factor for HCC, together with alcohol abuse [2,3]. Infection with HCV increases the risk for HCC, with a 15-20 fold increased incidence compared with HCV-negative subjects in cross-sectional and case-control studies [2].

Prediction of the Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Chronic Hepatitis C Patients after Sustained Virological Response by Aspartate Aminotransferase to Platelet Ratio Index
BACKGROUND/AIMS Following sustained virological response (SVR) for chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection, patients with advanced fibrosis require regular monitoring for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI) is a simple noninvasive surrogate marker known to reflect fibrosis. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 598 patients who achieved SVR ...
متن کاملNonzero Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Even after Sustained Virological Response
Approximately 130 to 150 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the world. HCV infection is a major cause of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The existence of hepatitis C— originally identifiable only as a type of non-A, non-B hepatitis— was suggested in the 1970s and proven in 1989. In the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (...
متن کاملStagnation of histopathological improvement is a predictor of hepatocellular carcinoma development after hepatitis C virus eradication
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) develops in some patients who achieve sustained virological response (SVR) against hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection via anti-HCV therapy. To examine the pathogenesis of HCC development after HCV eradication, histopathological changes and clinical markers were evaluated in SVR patients. METHODS Of 654 SVR patients treated with interferon (IFN)-based t...
متن کاملPrediction of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Development after Hepatitis C Virus Eradication Using Serum Wisteria floribunda Agglutinin-Positive Mac-2-Binding Protein
We aimed to clarify the association between a novel serum fibrosis marker, Wisteria floribunda agglutinin-positive Mac-2-binding protein (WFA⁺-M2BP), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development in 355 patients with chronic hepatitis C who achieved sustained virologic response (SVR) through interferon-based antiviral therapy. Pretreatment serum WFA⁺-M2BP levels were quantified and the hazard ...
متن کاملRisk of hepatocellular carcinoma after sustained virological response in Veterans with hepatitis C virus infection.
UNLABELLED The long-term prognosis in terms of risk or predictors of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among patients with sustained virological response (SVR) remains unclear. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from the Veterans Affairs VA hepatitis C virus (HCV) Clinical Case Registry in patients with positive HCV RNA between October 1999 and August 2009 and follow-u...
